... my innocent daughter Kristie was killed when a teen fleeing police plowed into our minivan directly where Kristie was sitting. She was “safely seat-belted” behind her dad. We were traveling to Kristie's basketball game. The involved officers keep calling it a low-speed chase as if that makes my daughter what … not dead? Well, the transcript of the chase and the police report tell a different story. Low-speed, high-speed, short or long, too many of these chases have had the same deadly results ... and too often it is the innocent who pay the ultimate price with their lives. While kristieslaw.org does not have all the names of innocent victims of pursuit, the list is certainly growing. Teens who flee need to be punished to the fullest extent of the law; no flee bargaining because of their age, just mandatory jail time.. They know very well what they are doing.
Unfortunately, too many teens are guilty of such behavior; they come into a lot of privileges and rights, and fail to see/accept the responsibilities inherent in them. This is something that society/parents have failed to instill in them. People of all ages have to learn the consequences of irresponsible behavior, or we will continue to have needless tragedies like that of your daughter.
