Hummingbirds

Every year hummingbirds nest in a tree in my front yard, about seven to eight feet above the ground. This year is no exception, and here is the female. No eggs yet, but they should be forthcoming. Will post updates as events unfold. The nest is about 2" in diameter.

I'm so jealous of being able to watch a hummer nest. I have a slew of the critters in my yard but they seem to nest in taller trees outside my yard. Nice pic.

The ones in my yard have always nested less than 9 feet; they prefer the fruitless mulberry trees I have in front.
They may prefer the type of trees outside your yard, rather than nesting because of height. A lot may have to do with the foliage type in the particular tree.
