I've been lost...

Been a while since I had decent contact with the Web; my connection has been down more than up, and when it was up, was running at about 30% speed (sort of like right now). The past few days have been snow, which is probably why I've been having internet withdrawal symptoms. Yesterday I had to shovel about a half foot, and it is some really heavy wet stuff. The main roads are clear, but neighborhood roads like mine still have about an inch of clear ice, so driving has been interesting.

I notice they're still fighting about the UK teacher over in Sudan. I don't understand the logic here; the country hires foreign teachers, and then gives them grief for a well-meaning mistake that didn't hurt anyone. It seems to me that no matter what is decided, when the teacher is sent home from that cesspool, the UK (and everyone else who has the slightest inkling of ethics) should pull out all aid, close their embassy there, and let those ignorant assholes either solve their own problems, or climb out of the Dark Ages and join civilized society.
Just my opinion.

I feel in an Eighties mood today, so the top ten of todays playlist reflects that. I imagine most of these should be familiar to visitors.

"Back Where You Belong" by .38 Special
"The Tide Is High" by Blondie
"This Ain't the Summer of Love" by Blue Öyster Cult
"Life Is a Lemon and I Want My Money Back" by Meat Loaf
"Sole Survivor" by Asia
"Shot of Poison" by Lita Ford
"A View to a Kill" by Duran Duran
"Dreamboat Annie" by Heart
"Take My Breath Away" by Berlin
"Don't You (Forget About Me)" by Simple Minds

when my computer runs like that it's HARD to be online. I toad-ily understand that.

Nice to see you post!!

I have a few of those songs downloaded from back when downloading was easy. Never cared much for Duran Duran. I have several Heart albums. All vinyl. I think my favorite .38 Special is "What If I'd Been the One."

Yeh, snow sucks. So much of it lately and then ice rain and the internet decides to intermittently run when it feels like it. Bah.

when my DSL went to 15k a sec I pretty much gave up for a few months until I found a new provider.

Those are some good songs but I thought dreamboat annie was early 70's

It came out in 1976, so it isn't really an Eighties song, but that's the time period I remember it from. Most of the Seventies I was listening to country western, since disco had come out and I hate most disco almost as much as I detest rap.
I have some vinyl I need to rip; a lot of the older stuff wasn't released under any other format, and so I can't find CD versions of some of them. I never got into downloading music because most of it is 128, and I prefer 192. I listen to a lot of classical, jazz, and blues, and those are a little more picky about the sampling rate in order to sound right. For jazz, nothing still beats the old analogue recordings on vinyl.

The weather around here seems to be affecting my DSL quite a bit; it goes down sometimes in the evening, and during the day it is running slow.
The air pressure going up and down is what is getting to me, I have 4 bad discs in my lower back that raise hell when the air pressure is changing.

Have to agree with you on the Sudan story. A member of the British Muslim Council or somesuch similar organisation was quoted on national radio here in the UK saying words to the effect that "if she'd named a pig Mohammed, the punishment would be understandable".

An eighties mood? Dang...for the past few months, I've been in a fifties/sixties mood. Currently playing: Don't Think Twice, by Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons.

Brilliant stuff. His voice, in that song, is about 10 octaves higher than it normally is. He sounds kind of like a chipmunk.
